Job Hunting Using the Net to Your Advantage
December 29th, 2009
A modern job hunting campaign is by nature pretty intricate. While the web has offered a variety of new channels, it also creates increased competition for choice jobs and possible challenges for job hunters.
Job hunting needs to be thought of as a personal, extremely targeted marketing operation where you are the product. Your resume is an advertisement. Your extended network of contacts is your source for job leads.
So where does the internet fit in? At AA-Careers, we recently posted a job on Craigslist and got over 650 responses in a calendar week. For a single job. That’s increased competition.
Had a strong person gotten ahold of us before we posted the ad, they could have secured the position prior to having all that competition. How? By finding someone at our office who became aware of the job prior to posting. Everyone was aware of the job for at least 11 days before it was posted. Who in your network might know of a job that’s coming available soon?
Be sure to check your application matierials carefully! When we did an analysis of the 650 resumes, we found a large number of errors. 63% of the applicants were easily taken out with a swift triage process. How? The same way any hiring manager would. By rejecting resumes where the objective didn’t match our job posting. By eliminating prospects whose cover letters gave us reasons not to engage them, like "I know I’m overqualified but I really need a job". By eliminating prospects whose documents that didn’t open properly. And by rejecting prospects who didn’t trouble to spell check their cover letter and/or resume.
So the good news is that job sites give you a sense of who is hiring, and for what kinds of jobs. But once those jobs are posted, the competition is intense. You can still try, if you have a well thought out resume, designed to appeal directly and clearly to the recruiter. And if you have practiced interviewing – so you don’t stumble at a critical point.
Another thing to be aware of is how easily you can be looked up on the internet. As we Googled several job hunters, we ran into some personal web pages that were in questionable taste. Nothing insane, but enough to swing our thoughts about who to choose.
AA-Careers provides a broad set of services for Bay Area job seekers, providing our clients a personal career consultant, a managed job hunting campaign, modern tools like a personal website, video, highly targeted resume, and much more. Let us know if we can help you.
Be careful out there, and good hunting!
Top Tips for Choosing the Right Bedsheet - Interesting
June 7th, 2009
It was common to have white bed sheets in everybodys bedroom quite some time back. You are astonished at the range of different bedding that are on offer today. Bedding was never so beautiful with the vibrant colorings, prints and textures that are offered in bedding today
Following are some factors that matter a lot when you purchase a bed sheet.
Take the beds measurings
You might think that all twin beds or king size beds are standard, but sadly it is not so. Usually the top measurings dont differ a lot but the other proportions vary with each bed maker. So make sure that you calculate all the measurings of your bed from top to bottom, side to side and also the thickness of the mattress you are using. You will find that some beds are taller or wider than others with the same name. When you have your beds dimensions with you, choosing a bedsheet is easier.
Zero down on the Bed storehouse
Super storehouses usually stock on branded and their own brands in one place.. For a different look, some people also go for embroidered bedding with sequins. The Internet is brimming with fresh new designs every day. For those who still love their cotton fiber sheets, a discount storehouse is where you should travel to.
Do you know what is a thread count?
A thread count refers to the number of threads carried in one square inch of the bedsheet in both directions of the weave. This count is mentioned on the label of the bedsheet itself. A lavish texture calls for a high thread count. However do not go for a very high thread count as it entails the singular threads are light and may not give the desired cozy feeling. For the right soft feel, a thread count of 175 to 250 is fine.
Pick your bed sheet material
Take care to choose a fabric that you can afford and is comfortable too. Though cotton fiber is the most preferable material, some people go for the cotton blends as they do not crease. Flannel is warm and can be used for wintertimes. Then there is the all time favorite silk, satin or microfiber that provides luxury.
bedsheet Care
Read the wash and care instructions for the sheets properly before buying them. Though silk bed sheets feel sensuous, they have to be dry cleaned each week. Can you promise to do this? Hence choose a bed sheet that you can afford and require less maintenance.
Once all the above factors are taken care of, you are sure to buy a nice and inexpensive bed sheet soon!

A barrister bookcase is a unreformed bookcase Its differentiating feature is a clear field glass face. A barrister bookcase was oftentimes used by a lawyers since it was often necessary for them to move. Now, they are very favorable, especially if one is forever on the move. Exceptional Barrister’s Oak Book cases avert the use of the normal sidelong opening doors and use doors that have the up and over opening mechanism. A metal scissor mechanism used inside the barrister shelves ensure the mobile doors do it in a parallel fashion without the problem of getting the doors jammed or tipped in the process. One benefit of utilizing the barrister bookcase and shelves is the ability to have some of these units group together and have them secured to a wall. These bookcases give the feeling of an fetching cabinet. A variety of materials can be used to make barrister’s bookcases Whether madeemploying wood or glass, barristers give a casual elgant appearance to a room.

Review: Who Gets The Apartment?
April 20th, 2008
Author: Steven Rigolosi
ISBN: 097737873X
During the past few years most of us have watched reality television shows such as Survivor and The Amazing Race. In essence, these shows revolve around contestants teaming up, paring off, and plotting against one another in their quest for victory. First time author, Steven Rigolosi, has now skillfully adapted this reality format to the printed page with, Who Gets the Apartment?
An advertisement is placed in a neighborhood Manhattan newspaper, The Clarion, where a luxurious 3000 sq ft. duplex penthouse comprising two bedrooms, fireplaces and three baths, and some other goodies, is offered for rent at the incredibly monthly low rental of six hundred dollars. If you have any idea of the tight and expensive rental market situation in Manhattan, you can very well appreciate how laughable this sounds!
The apartment is quickly gobbled up with, however, one drawback- the rental agent had cunningly rented the same premises to four different individuals. The four comprise an assistant district attorney, Venice, a struggling artist, Ian, a computer geek, Oliver, and an editor, Corinne, who all find themselves moving into the apartment at the same time. The question facing them is which one will keep the apartment, as they all have a valid legal right to the lease.
The suspenseful story plays out with four different possible scenarios crafted as short stories, each with unique plot twists. Should the four play the game of chance and roll the dice? Perhaps, it is everyman for himself, and let the most devious one win the apartment? If the apartment is large enough, why not all live in it for the two year term? Then again, how about banding together and bring the scoundrel who rented them the apartment to justice? The stories are contrived wherein friendships and relationships are tested during the course of several days offering different perspectives of humanity and human interaction.
Rigolosi is an original voice who uses a very clever and unique approach in inviting reader participation involving discussion, speculation, and philosophical reflection. He further teases and entertains his readers by including in the novel a sequel, Good Boys Never Win, that presumes the foursome had agreed to a plan of action and in so doing arrived at a very satisfactory feel- good conclusion. Their success now leads them to indulge in another situation involving one of the foursome’s boss and his secretary. Herein again by putting all of their heads together they are able to bring about vicious revenge on two individuals who deserve it.
Rigolosi can clearly write, keeping his readers on edge with his easy-to-read narrative, lovable characters, and intentionally intriguing plot. I would tend to agree with the author’s publicist who indicated to me that as a student of pop culture (and a former editor of sociology texts), Rigolosi is poised to accomplish something in which few authors have succeeded-turning watchers of television into readers of book.

Viral marketing the easy way
April 2nd, 2008
Viral marketing is a powerful method of getting your message
around. You start a self replicating mesage and launch it into
cyberspace. Then it and the carriers that it “infects” does all
the work for you.
A viral message has two parts, first it gets the receiver to
carry out some action such as subscribe to your newsletter, or
buy a product.
The second part of a viral message is to get the receiver to
pass the message on. This is the self replicating bit, and the
bit that makes viral marketing so special.
Great in theory, but it doesn’t always work in practice.
Why do some viral marketing efforts fail to spread as their
originators intend, while others thrive?
Harvey Segal, an internet marketing expert, has spent some time
figuring this out. He has identified that the problem lies in
the self-replicating bit. Getting enough of your receiver to
complete this process is the weakest link where many viral
campaign fail. This is hardly rocket science…but let’s look at
it carefully.
A popular method of viral marketing is to use rebrandable
ebooks. You send out an ebook with some useful information in
it. It contains some links which are of value to you, say to a
product you are selling on your own account or as an affiliate.
To make the book viral you encourage the recipient to REBRAND
the ebook with his or her own links and send it on. This is the
incentive part of process. Your need to ensure that all
recipients have the tools, the skills and the incentive to pass
the message on.
The problem is that rebranding the book is a bit clumsy,
typically you have to download and unzip a file, then run an
executable file to put your own links into it. Maybe you need to
sign up for a few affiliate programs and enter your ID’s. None
of this is especially difficut but it can be a drag, even with
detailed instructions. Harvey reckons this is where you get a
lot of drop outs. If you get too many your program will grow
very slowly,or even just die out.
As I said, none of this is rocket science, but what Harvey does
to solve the problem of drop outs is very smart.
Instead of all of your recipients, and their recipients, having
to go through the rebranding process Harvey has set up a method
of doing it on the fly. So the weakest suddenly becomes very
strong.
But that’s not all you need. A viral program needs powerful
tools to teach recipients how to distribute the message further.
Not all recipients will know how to use autoresponders, opt-in
lists and forums. The message has to be packaged up with the
means for its own replication.
Once you have set up your first viral ebook you will be full of
ideas for more. Your experience will help you do it quicker and
better next time around.
