When to Limp in

August 24th, 2010

While I hate to admit it, there are a few times in poker games and tournaments when limping into a hand can be a good idea. The times are generally few and far between, but since there are exceptions to every rule, i thought it only fair to explore these times as well as why I think that limping in is gereally the Great Satan of poker. The fact is, there are times when limping into a hand can be the smartest play. Here are a few occasions when it’s cool to limp in.

1. When you’ve got the nuts. If you’ve got a monster starting hand, like pocket Aces or A-King suited, then limping in can be a good way to get into a hand without your opponents having any clue about the strength of your cards.

2. If you’re at an overly passive table. If you’re sitting at a table full of opponents who are loathe to put their chips into the pot, then you’re probably not going to see a whole lot of pre flop raises. SInce you’re not likely to have to fold beofre seeing the flop, you can take a few more risks with by limping in with subpar hands and hoping that the flop improves them.

See? There are a few times when limping in can pay off. Just don’t start limping in every time you have cards in front of you at Everest Poker telecharger.
